Last week Dr. Anthony Fauci, allegedly the nation’s leading authority in infectious diseases, admitted he continued to mask up even though he was at near-zero risk of contracting COVID-19.
“I didn’t want to look like I was giving mixed signals, but being a fully vaccinated person, the chances of my getting infected in an indoor setting is extremely low,” he told ABC News in an interview.
Fauci’s admission was important for a few reasons.
One, it proved Sen. Rand Paul was right when the Kentucky Republican challenged Fauci a couple of months ago for masking as “theater” when Fauci was fully vaccinated. Two, it offered further proof that the Biden administration is undermining its own message about advocating vaccinations. And three, Fauci’s admission just added to the numerous times he has lied to, misled or simply been wrong about some COVID-19 policy.
We’re now approaching Day 425 of “15 days to slow the spread,” and when it comes to Fauci, Americans have said enough.
The conservative Washington Examiner reported on Saturday that two recent polls indicate the public is fed up with Fauci-ism.
One poll, by the Trafalgar Group, asked: “Has your confidence in Dr. Fauci gone up or down in the past year?” A combined 42 percent said their confidence in Fauci had decreased or significantly decreased since a year ago.
Among Republicans, support for Fauci had plummeted 66 percent.
Among Democrats, 32 percent said they were more confident in Fauci, yet 20 percent had watched their faith flop.
Overall, just 22 percent of respondents said their faith in Fauci had risen over the past 12 months.
The Examiner pointed out that a separate poll in September found that 26 percent said they had no or little trust in Fauci. That compared to 68 percent who said they had a great deal or a fair amount of trust in the doctor.
But the Examiner noted a second poll that showed for Fauci depended on party.
That poll, by YouGov and Yahoo News, found 54 percent of Democrats grade his performance as excellent, while 55 percent of Republicans rate him as poor.
That poll also revealed that among political independents, 26 percent rated Fauci’s job performance as poor, which was the leader in the plurality of the responses. It appears, like everything else in life, where one stands on Fauci depends on which political party one belongs to.
