Big Coppitt Key Man Arrested For Pipe Wrench Attack: Monroe County Sheriff

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 52-year-old man from Big Coppitt Key, Florida, was arrested early Sunday for allegedly attacking another man with a pipe wrench. The incident resulted in non-life-threatening injuries.

Glenn Joseph Hammons was charged with aggravated battery.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island at approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday. A 47-year-old male victim reported to deputies that he had been attacked by Hammons earlier at the Purple Porpoise Pub on Big Coppitt Key.

According to the victim, he and Hammons were playing billiards at the pub when an argument broke out. Hammons reportedly left the location but returned with a pipe wrench and a Taser.

The victim stated that Hammons attacked him with both weapons and that he suffered a concussion.

Hammons was arrested and taken to jail.
