Two days before former President Donald Trump left office, regular gas cost $2.38 a gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
As of Aug. 9, it was $3.17 a gallon.
That’s up 33 percent in seven months.
But never fear: President Joe Biden has a plan to fix this.
On Wednesday, CNBC reported, “The White House is calling on OPEC and its oil-producing allies to boost production in an effort to combat climbing gasoline prices, amid concerns that rising inflation could derail the economic recovery from Covid.”
OPEC members reportedly agreed in July to boost production by 400,000 barrels a day at least through the end of the year.
The Biden administration says that’s not good enough.
“We are engaging with relevant OPEC+ members on the importance of competitive markets in setting prices,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said, according to CNBC. “Competitive energy markets will ensure reliable and stable energy supplies, and OPEC+ must do more to support the recovery.”
Meanwhile, the Biden Federal Trade Commission is starting to “monitor” the U.S. gas market to determine if it needs to “address any illegal conduct that might be contributing to price increases for consumers at the pump.”
Never mind that the federal government is setting inflation afire by showering money on the American economy as if it’s dropping dollar bills from military cargo planes.
Meanwhile, Biden wants net zero-emissions by 2050. He wants the federal government to build 500,000 electrical vehicle charging stations because by 2030 he wants half of all cars sold in the U.S. to be electric.
He wants America’s electrical grid to be fully “clean” by 2035. He wants to double offshore wind-energy production by 2030.
Moreover, he canceled the Keystone XL Pipeline that would deliver crude oil from Canada. He ordered a “pause” on new oil and natural gas drilling on public lands. He has directed his agencies to end federal subsidies to fossil fuel producers by next fiscal year.
In other words, he declared war on the fossil-fuel industry to cram down his green agenda on the nation, fueling the surge in gas prices and curtailing America’s status as a net petroleum exporter as was achieved under former President Donald Trump, and now he demands that our Middle Eastern rivals, if not enemies, pump more allegedly climate-heating fossil fuels and sell to us what we once produced on our own, in order to bring down prices that his own policies rapidly inflated.
It’s hard to tell if Biden is cynical or clueless. But either way, it’s not working.
