Biden Trails Trump In Florida By Double Digits

A new poll released Thursday shows President Joe Biden trailing former President Donald Trump by double digits in Florida.

According to a new Emerson College poll, in a 2024 presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, 51% back Trump, 38% Biden, and 11% remain uncertain.

With undecided voters leaning toward allocation, Trump’s overall support rises to 56% and Biden’s to 44%, according to the poll.

  • Among Biden voters, 32% support him because they dislike Trump, 24% because they like Biden, 19% care about an issue, and 14% support their party’s candidate. 
  • Among Trump voters, 31% support him because they care about an issue, 28% because they like Trump, 16% because they dislike Biden, and 14% support their party’s candidate.

President Biden has 36% job approval in Florida and 54% job disapproval. Governor Ron DeSantis has 47% job approval and 42% disapproval.

In a hypothetical U.S. Senate race between incumbent Republican Rick Scott and Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, 45% support Scott, 38% Mucarsel-Powell, and 17% are uncertain.

The poll also shows that in Florida, 42% of respondents intend to vote yes on the November ballot issue that will establish a constitutional right to abortion before fetal viability, 32% are undecided, and 25% will vote no.

A majority of voters (57%) believe the six-week abortion ban, which will become state law next month, is “too strict.” 15% think it’s not strict enough, while 28% say it’s about right. Concerning the existing 15-week restriction, 43% think it is too stringent, 21% think it is not strict enough, and 36% think it is about right.

“Fifty-six percent of Democrats and 44% of independents plan to vote in favor of a constitutional right to abortion before fetal viability,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said. “Republicans are more split: 36% plan to vote no, 30% yes, and 34% are unsure.”

Florida voters rank the economy as the most significant concern (27%), followed by home affordability (16%), immigration (14%), abortion availability (10%), dangers to democracy (9%), healthcare (9%), education (6%), and crime (5%).

The percentage of Florida voters who identified abortion access as their top issue is four points more than the most recent national poll (6%).
