What was once racist and xenophobic is now apparently acceptable — since a Democrat is doing it.
The Biden administration is considering restricting travel from China because of an explosion of COVID-19 cases, according to The Washington Times.
“There are mounting concerns in the international community on the ongoing COVID-19 surges in China and the lack of transparent data, including viral genomic sequence data, being reported from the [People’s Republic of China],” anonymous U.S. officials told the Times and other news outlets on Tuesday.
“Without this data, it is becoming increasingly difficult for public health officials to ensure that they will be able to identify any potential new variants and take prompt measures to reduce the spread.”

The Times noted that Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan are just some of the other nations that have limited visitors from China in recent days.
Those unnamed Biden officials said America is “following the science and advice of public health experts.”
But when former President Donald Trump did likewise in January 2020, the chorus was clear — including from the current White House occupant.
For example, on Jan. 31, 2020, the day Trump announced the limits on Chinese travel, then-candidate Joe Biden told an Iowa crowd, “In moments like this, this is where the credibility of the president is most needed, as he explains what we should and should not do. This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysteria and xenophobia – hysterical xenophobia – and fearmongering to lead the way instead of science.”
Biden repeated the claim the very next day in a tweet, saying, “We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering. He is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency.”

In a U.S. House hearing later that week, Democratic Rep. Eliot L. Engel said, “The United States and other countries around the world have put in place unprecedented travel restrictions in response to the virus. These measures have not proven to improve public health outcomes, rather they tend to cause economic harm and to stoke racist and discriminatory responses to this epidemic.”
Democratic Rep. Ami Bera, who oversaw that hearing, told Politico, “In our response we can’t create prejudices and harbor anxieties toward one population.”
But now that Biden’s doing it, it’s “science” not racism.
