While the U.S. Supreme Court was ending the idea of COVID-19 vaccine mandates across the country, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser was reminding her citizens that on Saturday her virus crackdown was just beginning.
D.C. now requires proof of being vaccinated and a photo ID in order to enter social settings such as restaurants, gyms, and coffee shops.
But greeting the mandate were Soviet-style, red, white, and black graphic posters that portrayed President Joe Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci as dictators and mocked their demand for compliance to their alleged protective measures that have failed miserably in the spread of the omicron variant.
For example, one poster showed Biden with an angry look and wielding a hammer, as his head was framed by the word “Comply.” Another showed Biden sitting while holding the COVID germ, with the caption “Mandate! Segregate! Subjugate!”
As The Washington Examiner reported, Twitter user Leigh Wolf snapped photos of the posters, which were hung outside a coffee shop in Northeast Washington.
“Somebody put up this incredible street art in DC over night. Knowing DC it’ll be ripped down within hours. All must comply! If you know the artist drop it in the replies!” he tweeted with the photos.
And almost on cue, just 11 minutes later, Wolf videoed a woman who was ripping down the posters. When he noted they were “just art” and asked why she was tearing them down, the woman replied that they were “dangerous propaganda.”
“Yes, it’s a public health concern,” she added in the video, “I live in the neighborhood. This is b–ls–t.”
Another Twitter user told the Examiner that they had appeared in another part of town. He, too, took photos and posted them.
“I rarely see street art of this type coming from a right-wing (or however you want to call it) point of view,” Noam Blum told the Examiner. “So, it felt more noteworthy than some anti-Trump poster, which are a dime a dozen.”
Another Twitter user reflected the thoughts of many who responded to the posters:
“Thank you for sharing the artist’s work, I also love their art. On a serious note, there’s a good chance that the artist of such work wishes to remain anonymous due to potential consequences in today’s society.”
