Biden Admin Sues Mid-Atlantic Gas Station Chain Because It Refused To Hire Criminals

The Biden administration’s “equity” policies apparently weren’t asinine enough when the feds targeted Elon Musk for refusing to hire immigrants to work on Space X projects vital to national security.

President Joe Biden’s minions have gone a step further by targeting a regional gas station chain for not hiring actual criminals.

On Sunday, the conservative X account End Wokeness highlighted a recent news report from the CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh about the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission suing the Sheetz company for discrimination.

Biden’s employment regulators claim in the lawsuit that Sheetz, by utilizing background checks to scan for arrest records by prospective employees, “disproportionately screens out black, Native American, and other multiracial (job) applicants.”

As CBS News reported, the EEOC found that Sheetz rejected 14.5% of black applicants for failing the criminal record check, while the rate for multiracial job-seekers was 13.5% and 13% for Native Americans.

Comparatively, fewer than 8% of white applicants were denied because of a failed criminal background check, according to the EEOC’s lawsuit.

The EEOC apparently did not consider the fact that racial minorities commit crimes at a higher rate than whites.

However, the Biden administration oddly claims that it does not believe race is the motivating factor in Sheetz’s hiring decisions.

The upshot, as End Wokeness posted, “You are now required to hire criminals.”

In response to the post, Musk replied, “This is crazy.”

Conservative commentator Tim Young added on X, “This might be the first time that the Biden administration has recognized that minorities commit crimes.”

NBC reported that during the Obama administration, Sheetz first got on the EEOC’s radar in 2015.

Yet it was not until 2022, under Biden, that the feds informed Sheetz that they were gunning for the company.

The website Convenience Store News (CSN) reported that Sheetz has worked for years to resolve this issue with the government without going to court.

But that may not matter.

Because the “diversity, equity, inclusion” police inside the Biden administration automatically see guilt in the outcome,

EEOC Regional Attorney Debra Lawrence said in a statement, “Federal law mandates that employment practices causing a disparate impact because of race or other protected classifications must be shown by the employer to be necessary to ensure the safe and efficient performance of the particular jobs at issue.”

“Even when such necessity is proven, the practice remains unlawful if there is an alternative practice available that is comparably effective in achieving the employer’s goals but causes less discriminatory effect.”

It’s unclear what the “alternative practice” to background checks Sheetz could utilize to determine whether job applicants have criminal records.

Sheetz, founded in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in 1952, currently operates more than 720 stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina.

Sheetz public relations manager Nick Ruffner released a statement, saying:

“Sheetz does not tolerate discrimination of any kind. Diversity and inclusion are essential parts of who we are.

“We take these allegations seriously.  We have attempted to work with the EEOC for nearly eight years to find common ground and resolve this dispute.  We will address the claims in Court when the time comes.”
