Bicyclist Killed In Wesley Chapel Crash When Driver Runs Red Light

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – A 50-year-old woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing SR-56 in Wesley Chapel on Sunday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old man from Wesley Chapel was driving a Honda Pilot eastbound on SR-56 around 11:05 pm. The woman was crossing the highway in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Shops Lane.

The driver of the Honda Pilot failed to stop for a red light and collided with the bicyclist in the intersection. The driver was unharmed, but the bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
