Hurricane Beryl’s wrath diminished as it brushed past Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula this morning. The storm, once a Category 3, has been downgraded to a tropical storm with sustained winds of 70 mph (113 km/h) after encountering the landmass.
While Beryl weakened, it still delivered heavy rain and strong winds to the region, particularly impacting the popular tourist areas of Cancun and Cozumel. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported in Mexico so far.

“The Yucatan Peninsula helped to significantly weaken Beryl,” said a spokesperson for Mexico’s National Meteorological Service. “However, we urge residents to remain cautious as heavy rain and gusty winds can still pose a threat.”pen_spark
The downgraded storm is expected to emerge back into the Gulf of Mexico later tonight. Forecasters are divided on Beryl’s future. Some predict it may regain strength as a Category 1 hurricane, while others suggest it might struggle to re-organize.
Regardless, residents along the Texas coast are keeping a watchful eye as Beryl’s path remains uncertain.
