Beer Can Helps Tampa Police Apprehend Suspect In Fatal Hillsborough Avenue Stabbing

TAMPA, Fla. – Eddy Caron, a 57-year-old Tampa resident, has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder in connection with the June 12th fatal stabbing of a 52-year-old man. The incident occurred near the intersection of N. 15th St. and E. Hillsborough Ave.

“We hope that this arrest will provide some closure for the family of the victim,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “This successful investigation is a testament to the outstanding work of our detectives who pieced together the evidence, identified the suspect, and quickly took him into custody.”

The victim was discovered with multiple stab wounds to the upper body. Witness accounts and surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store proved crucial in identifying Caron as the perpetrator.

A witness reported seeing the victim alive and the suspect, matching Caron’s description, shortly before the attack. Another witness observed the suspect fleeing on a unique bicycle adorned with deer antlers.

Surveillance footage captured Caron entering the nearby 2K convenience store, purchasing a beer, and entering the fenced area behind the Wendy’s restaurant, where the victim was later found. He quickly exited the area after the attack and rode away on his bicycle.

A beer can containing Caron’s DNA was recovered near the crime scene, and further investigation linked him to a previous trespassing incident involving his backpack and bicycle, both matching witness descriptions and surveillance footage.

Caron was arrested at his home on June 22nd and transported to Hillsborough County Jail.
