Justin Worley, 44, of Cranston, known as the “Bearded Bandit,” has been sentenced to time served (62 months) for robbing an East Providence bank on New Year’s Eve in 2019 and for violating the terms of his supervised release from previous bank robbery convictions.

Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced the sentencing, which was handed down by U.S. District Court Senior Judge William E. Smith. In addition to time served, Worley was ordered to serve three years of supervised release, with the first six months to be spent in a residential reentry center. He was also ordered to pay $11,569 in restitution.

Worley pleaded guilty on October 30, 2024, to charges of conspiracy to commit bank robbery and bank robbery. He has been in custody since his arrest on January 21, 2020.

On December 31, 2019, Worley and co-defendant Nicholas Lage robbed an East Providence bank branch, demanding money from tellers. Lage brandished a knife during the robbery. The pair fled with approximately $11,569 and were apprehended later that evening at Twin River Casino.

The court also determined that Worley violated the terms of his supervised release stemming from his 2012 conviction for robbing nine banks, which resulted in a six-year federal prison sentence.

The East Providence Police Department and the FBI investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ronald R. Gendron.
