Bartow Woman Driving Wrong Way Kills Orlando Man On Selmon Expressway In Tampa

TAMPA, Fla.– A wrong-way driver caused a fatal head-on collision on the Selmon Expressway early Friday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, around 2:52 am, a Honda Fit driven by a 40-year-old Bartow woman was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of SR-618 near Milepost 6. The Honda collided head-on with a Toyota Yaris driven by a 33-year-old Orlando man.

The impact caused both vehicles to rotate, with the Toyota ultimately colliding with a concrete barrier wall. The driver of the Toyota suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

The wrong-way driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Authorities are investigating where the wrong-way driver entered the expressway and what caused her to travel in the wrong direction. The crash remains under investigation.
