Bartow Man’s Meth-Fueled Crash Leads To Major Drug Bust In Polk County

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 60-year-old Bartow man’s drug-fueled crash near Lakeland on Friday resulted in his arrest on multiple charges, including methamphetamine trafficking and DUI.

Polk County Sheriff’s detectives were assessing a crash scene at the intersection of US 98 North and Winter Lake Road around 12:25 p.m. when they encountered Jimmy Edward Wyndham, who had been driving a silver Ford F-150.

Wyndham admitted to falling asleep at the wheel, but detectives quickly noticed his erratic behavior and profuse sweating. He then handed a detective a baggie of methamphetamine.

A further search revealed two larger baggies of methamphetamine in Wyndham’s pocket, totaling 41.30 grams. Inside the truck, detectives found a black bag containing additional baggies of marijuana (4.33 grams), methamphetamine (17.45 grams), and cocaine (2 grams). A shotgun shell was also discovered in the center console.

Wyndham confessed to using meth shortly before the crash and admitted he was on his way to sell the drugs. Fortunately, the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash were uninjured.

Wyndham was arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail, facing a slew of charges:

  • DUI with Property Damage
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Possession of Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon
  • Trafficking in Methamphetamine over 28 grams
  • Possession of Methamphetamine With Intent to Sell
  • Keeping a Motor Vehicle for Drugs (2nd violation)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • DUI
