LAKELAND, Fla. – Avelo Airlines is spreading its wings in Central Florida. The airline has announced the opening of its sixth base of operations at Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL), offering travelers an alternative to the larger, busier airports in Orlando and Tampa. This expansion includes the launch of four new nonstop routes this week, with three more to follow next month, all at Avelo’s signature low fares.
Lakeland City Manager Shawn Sherrouse said, “We’re excited that our airline partner, Avelo Airlines, has launched new destinations to and from Lakeland. Visitors will soon experience the warmth and hospitality of Central Florida, while local travelers can explore exciting locations like New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Puerto Rico.”

New Nonstop Destinations from Lakeland
Starting this week, travelers can fly nonstop from LAL to four new destinations:
- Charlotte / Concord, NC (USA)
- Boston / Manchester, NH (MHT)
- Rochester, NY (ROC)
- San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)
Avelo is the only airline offering nonstop service to these destinations from Lakeland, providing travelers with more options and convenience. Flights will operate twice a week using Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft.
And there’s more to come! In November, Avelo will add three more nonstop routes from LAL:
- Atlanta, GA (ATL)
- Hartford, CT (BDL)
- Philadelphia / Wilmington, DE (ILG)

Lakeland: Avelo’s Central Florida Hub
Lakeland Linder International Airport will serve as Avelo’s Central Florida base, complementing its existing operations at Orlando International Airport (MCO). This dual-airport approach allows Avelo to significantly expand its presence in the region and offer travelers greater choice and flexibility.
“We are thrilled to welcome these additional destinations to Lakeland International Airport including the opening of Avelo Airline’s newest base. It’s great to see the work of so many including our team, Avelo Airlines, and our partners at Visit Central Florida come to life. I would also like to thank the community for all the support they’ve provided by embracing Avelo and the extraordinary growth of our airport,” said Lakeland International Airport Director Kris Hallstrand.
Visit Central Florida Director of Tourism and Sports Marketing Mark Jackson added, “Thanks to Avelo Airlines, it will now be easier for travelers from around the world to experience Central Florida’s Polk County, where the real Florida magic happens.”
With its new base and expanded route network, Avelo Airlines is set to enhance connectivity and bring greater travel convenience to the Lakeland and Central Florida region.
