Attorney General Pam Bondi launched a forceful attack on members of the federal judiciary Sunday, accusing judges of overstepping their authority and obstructing President Donald Trump’s policy agenda. During a Fox News interview on Sunday Morning Futures, Bondi said recent rulings against key administration initiatives reflect a judiciary that is “out of control.”

Bondi specifically criticized federal judges who have paused or struck down Trump-era policies, including deportations under the Alien Enemies Act, environmental funding rollbacks, and bans affecting transgender military service.

“This is an out-of-control judge, a federal judge, trying to control our entire foreign policy, and he cannot do it,” Bondi said, referring to U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who is presiding over the legal challenge to the administration’s controversial deportation program.

The Alien Enemies Act, a law dating back to 1798, has rarely been invoked in modern times. The Trump administration has used it as legal grounds to deport alleged gang members to El Salvador, citing national security and public safety concerns. Critics say the law has been used to circumvent due process protections, and it remains unclear whether many of the deportees had access to court hearings.

Bondi insisted the deportations were necessary and justified, calling the individuals targeted “the most violent criminals you can imagine.”

“These are basic public safety decisions,” she said. “We’re deporting people who pose a real danger to our communities.”

Trump’s immigration czar Tom Homan also defended the policy in an interview on ABC News, saying many gang members “don’t have criminal histories” but are still considered dangerous. RELATED: Border Czar Tom Homan: “We Will Not Stop Until We Have Total Operational Control”

Bondi’s comments echo growing frustration within the Trump administration toward the courts. President Trump himself has called for the impeachment of Judge Boasberg, branding him a “Constitutional disaster” in a Truth Social post on Sunday.

Bondi doubled down during the Fox interview, expanding her criticism to include U.S. District Judges Tanya Chutkan, Ana Reyes, and Theodore Chuang, all of whom have recently issued rulings against Trump-era initiatives:

  • Chutkan: Blocked the administration’s attempt to cancel $20 billion in climate-related EPA grants.
  • Reyes: Halted Trump’s reinstated ban on transgender individuals enlisting or serving in the military.
  • Chuang: Ruled the dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development likely violated multiple constitutional provisions.

“These judges are trying to control our entire national agenda,” Bondi said. “But we’re going to fight back, and we are going to win. The Supreme Court will be ready to hear these cases.”

Trump’s impeachment call for Boasberg drew an unusually public rebuke from Chief Justice John Roberts, who defended judicial independence.

“It has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision,” Roberts said in a statement, urging adherence to the appellate review process instead.

Legal experts warn that escalating rhetoric from the White House and Justice Department toward the judiciary could further erode norms of separation of powers and judicial independence.

Bondi also weighed in on a string of arson attacks targeting Tesla charging stations, calling them acts of “domestic terrorism.” She claimed the use of Molotov cocktails in the incidents, for which three individuals are facing charges, could meet the threshold of a “weapon of mass destruction.”

“When you’re using improvised incendiary devices to attack infrastructure, that’s domestic terrorism,” she said. “This isn’t just vandalism—it’s meant to instill fear and disrupt American innovation.”

As legal battles over immigration, climate, defense policy, and public safety play out in courts across the country, Bondi made clear the administration will continue to challenge what it views as judicial overreach.

“The Supreme Court will get involved,” she said. “We’re not backing down.”
