Attorney Brian Claypool, a prominent Pasadena-based legal advocate, unleashed scathing criticism against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom following his forced evacuation from the devastating California wildfires.
Speaking on Fox News’ The Faulkner Focus on Thursday, Claypool labeled the crisis as both “predicted and preventable,” accusing state and local leadership of negligence.

“I am flat-out heartbroken and outraged,” Claypool told host Harris Faulkner. “We are sick and tired in LA County of having liberal political leadership play Russian roulette with all of our lives.”
Claypool pointed to warnings of hurricane-force winds between 80 and 100 miles per hour, asserting that state and local officials failed to take appropriate preemptive measures to mitigate wildfire risks.
“There was nobody on TV here in LA, except Gavin Newsom doing his dog-and-pony show, talking about what we’re supposed to do,” Claypool said. “What about basic infrastructure? Nobody tested the water pipes. This was not brain surgery—it was predicted.”
Claypool dismissed claims that aerial firefighting efforts alone could have prevented loss of life and property damage in the Palisades area, emphasizing the need for systemic solutions like proper water infrastructure, vegetation management, and soil removal.

The attorney directed his frustration not only at Mayor Bass but also at the LA County Board of Supervisors. “These supervisors show up at press conferences after urban carnage, after kids have been murdered in LA County, and they try to tell you, ‘Oh, we’re going to do this.’ What have they done to prevent it?” Claypool asked. “We’re sick and tired of this. It’s inexcusable.”
He criticized what he called the “mismanagement” of California’s water resources, highlighting controversial policies that divert water for environmental purposes rather than addressing critical wildfire prevention needs.
“If you want to save human lives, then do your job,” Claypool said. “Have a plan in place. There was no operational plan anywhere in LA County to help with this.”
Claypool, known for his advocacy on high-profile legal cases, vowed to pursue accountability for what he described as systemic failures in wildfire management and disaster preparedness. While visibly emotional about the ongoing crisis, he assured viewers that he would seek justice for the affected communities.
The wildfires, fueled by powerful Santa Ana winds, have destroyed over 2,000 structures and forced thousands to evacuate across Los Angeles County, including areas like the Pacific Palisades, San Fernando Valley, and Pasadena. Officials estimate that more than 180,000 residents are under evacuation orders as crews work tirelessly to contain the flames.
Claypool concluded his remarks with a call for meaningful action: “This was preventable. We’re grieving, but it’s time for leadership to step up and take responsibility to protect the people of California. Enough is enough.”
