At Least 16 Injured After 2 Airboats Collide In Florida

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A serious airboat crash occurred in Ochopee south of U.S. 41 East, between mile markers 74 and 75, in the Florida Everglades, at approximately 3:15 PM on Friday.

A total of 33 people were on board the two airboats involved in the collision. At least 16 individuals have been transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Emergency responders are currently on the scene.

Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) released a statement regarding the incident, expressing concern and offering prayers for the injured.

“This afternoon, in the Collier County Everglades, two airboats collided with a total of thirty-three passengers on-board,” said Donalds. “At this time, emergency officials are on-scene and at least sixteen passengers have been transported to local hospitals for treatment. My office is actively tracking this rapidly-developing situation. Erika and I pray for the health and safety of all involved.”

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is leading the investigation into the cause of the accident.
