Americans may think the Democrats’ politics of defunding police and letting criminals go free are turning the criminal justice system into a thinly disguised circus.
But over in Britain, they’ve actually got the clown cars to show for it.
The Telegraph of London recently reported that police forces in the United Kingdom are replacing the routine logos on some of their patrol cars with star-covered, rainbow-colored designs.
And those bright colors and bold stars mask a nefarious purpose.
As The Telegraph reported, the police are referring to the vehicles as “hate crime cars” as a way “to encourage people to report incidents such as social media comments.”
Yes, social media comments.
An Instagram video cut by the National Police Chiefs’ Council shows some agencies’ cars adorned with audaciously bright colors, the LGBT Pride flag, and slogans that say things like “Police with Pride.”
Julie Cooke, a deputy constable in Cheshire and the NPCC’s lead official on LGBT issues, said the idea is to give LGBTers and “under-represented” communities the “confidence” to come forward and report crimes.
“The impact is huge,” she said of the cars’ new color scheme.
Yet, according to the Telegraph, one in six crimes is not prosecuted, including offenses like robbery and sexual assault, because police say they lack resources and are stretched too thin.
Harry Miller, a former cop and founder of an advocacy group called Fair Cop, told the Telegraph police aren’t showing up in special cars “for knife crime, even though the number of stabbings in London is appalling.”
“The problem is that the second that you see a rainbow car, you know that it is a police force that has made its mind up about some very contentious issues,” Miller said. “You no longer see a police car or a police officer who is there to support everyone, from all political persuasions, without fear or favour. They have literally tied their colours to the mast and painted their cars with their political leanings. They are painting rainbows on their cars when we have figures showing that only seven percent of violent crime ends in a prosecution.”
“They have moved from policing crime to policing thoughts and speech because it is easier,” Miller said.
And if you’re an American with a tendency to scoff at Miller’s hyperbole, note that the left-wing Independent in Britain reported recently that British police rounded up five people for allegedly making racist comments on social media about English soccer players following a European tournament.
Conservative commentator Darren Grimes told Sky News that police pulling up to snag a hardened thug in such a vehicle would not likely inspire fear in the perp.
“They are clown cars, and increasingly the police force in this country is being taken as a clown force, instead of enforcers of the law,” said Grimes, who himself is gay.
“Police want the people out there, solving actual crimes, … instead of driving around in vomit-inducing clown mobiles. … We want law and order in this country, we don’t want whackery and wokery. You’d think Meghan Markle was in charge of the police in this country.”
