Donald Trump has been a real estate developer, billionaire, reality-TV host, and president of the United States. Perhaps he should add prophet to the resume.
The conservative Media Research Center recently dug out a clip of Trump making a prediction about Joe Biden’s presidency right before the 2020 election.
During a November 2020 campaign stop in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Trump noted how America had become energy independent on his watch.
“We don’t need their oil anymore. We have so much oil. We have more oil than anybody,” the then-president said.
“It’s an incredible thing that’s happened over the last few years, a lot of great things. And you’re paying, what, $2 a gallon for your gasoline? That’s okay,” Trump added to rousing cheers.
“You know what that’s like?” he continued. “That’s like a tax cut. That’s bigger than a tax cut. If Biden got in, you’d be paying $7, $8, $9. Then they’d say, ‘Get rid of your car.'”
Biden is proving Trump right more each day.
Driven by inflation that kicked in after Biden took office, and now by the war in Ukraine, the average price of gas on Wednesday was $4.25 a gallon nationally, according to AAA.
Yet AAA reports that it was $3.47 just a month ago, and $2.80 a year ago. Today’s price is the highest ever recorded by AAA.
Florida’s statewide average was just behind the national figure, at $4.21 a gallon.
AAA noted that the highest state price is in California, at $5.57 a gallon.
On the day before Biden took office, the national average was $2.38 a gallon. And that was up 13 cents a gallon since Jan. 1, 2021.
The Associated Press reported on Monday that gas was as high as $6.31 a gallon in some parts of California.
Yet three weeks ago energy industry analyst Dan Dicker told Yahoo News that the price could reach $7 a gallon, if crude oil climbs to $150 a barrel.
The price of crude spiked to $130 a barrel earlier this week. As of Wednesday, it was about $110.
Earlier this week, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak predicted crude would rocket to $300 a barrel if Western nations followed through, as Biden did this week, on banning Russian imports.
What about the other part of Trump’s prediction?
Well, also this past week Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg both championed a future ripe with electric vehicles.
Their comments followed Biden’s own remarks last month, just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He noted that his administration had pledged $5 billion to build electric-vehicle charging stations nationwide. “America is building convenient, reliable, equitable, national public charging networks. So wherever you live, charging an electric vehicle will be quick and easy,” he told reporters at the time.
On Monday, after observing Harris and Buttigieg Republican Rep. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, who sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said on Twitter, “The Biden Administration could not be more tone-deaf.”
“Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary Pete Buttigieg spent the afternoon promoting electric vehicles and Green New Deal policies. Are you kidding me?” Mullin added.
