TAMPA, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man linked to a deadly shooting in Tampa earlier this month.
At 9:50 p.m. on October 2, deputies were called to a reported shooting at the Bella Mar Apartments located at 12418 N 15th Street in Tampa. An adult male victim was found lying on the ground in the parking lot with upper body trauma. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to witnesses, just before the shooting, there were multiple people involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot. The two parties briefly separated after the fight broke out, but reunited and engaged in a second fight. The victim, who was not present during the first fight, came to the parking lot with one of the parties during the second fight and was shot during the ordeal.
Following an investigation and interviews with witnesses, detectives were able to identify Carlos Sharif Knight Jr, 30, as the shooter. Knight was arrested on Thursday evening, October 22, and taken into custody without incident on charges of 2nd-degree murder with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and shooting at or within a vehicle.
“Thankfully, through diligent detective work and cooperation from the community, we were able to identify and locate this dangerous individual and take him off of the streets,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Senseless violence and a loss of life because of it is unacceptable, and we will ensure that justice is served for the victim and his family.”
