Army Corps Offers Free Temporary Roof Repairs To Pinellas County Hurricane Victims

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Pinellas County residents with roof damage from Hurricane Milton can get free temporary repairs through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ “Operation Blue Roof.”

To help residents apply for this program, the Army Corps will be stationed at mobile registration units in St. Petersburg and Madeira Beach this weekend and early next week.

Mobile Registration Locations and Dates:

  • Pinellas County Tax Collector’s Office: 2500 34th St. N., St. Petersburg
    • Saturday, Oct. 26th and Sunday, Oct. 27th, 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM
  • Winn Dixie Parking Lot: 15200 Municipal Drive, Madeira Beach
    • Monday, Oct. 28th and Tuesday, Oct. 29th, 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM

FEMA Disaster Recovery Center:

  • Botanical Gardens Magnolia Room: 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo
    • Monday, Oct. 28th and Tuesday, Oct. 29th

How to Apply:

Residents can register for Operation Blue Roof in person at the locations listed above or by calling (888) 766-3258. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, November 5th.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The program is available for primary residences or permanently occupied rental properties with less than 50% roof framing damage.
  • Vacation rental properties are not eligible.
  • Roofs must be standard shingles or a similar material that allows for tarp installation.
  • Roofs made of slate, asbestos, clay tile, or other difficult-to-repair materials are not eligible.
  • Metal roofs and mobile homes will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Important Notes:

  • Residents will need to provide proof of address, such as a driver’s license.
  • The Army Corps will remove homeowner-installed tarps and minor debris before installing the blue roof.
  • Homeowners are responsible for removing large debris, such as trees, from their roofs.

This program provides much-needed assistance to homeowners as they begin the process of repairing and rebuilding after Hurricane Milton.
