An Arizona man has been sentenced to over 31 years in prison for the brutal murder and dismemberment of his former roommate.
Timothy Sullivan, 66, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and concealing a body in the death of 49-year-old Amy “Ruby” Leagans.
Leagans’ family expressed outrage in court, describing the horrific mutilation of her body. Sullivan, who blamed his actions on a traumatic brain injury, offered an apology. However, the judge called him a “danger to society” and condemned his treatment of the victim.

The case unfolded in 2020 when Leagans was reported missing. Her remains were later discovered scattered across the Phoenix area, prompting a police investigation that quickly led to Sullivan.
Sullivan confessed to choking Leagans to death after an argument. He initially buried her body in his backyard but later exhumed and dismembered it, using an ax to sever her limbs. He then disposed of the body parts in trash receptacles and the desert.
This gruesome crime has shocked the community and left Leagans’ family devastated. Sullivan’s lengthy sentence brings some measure of justice but cannot erase the pain and suffering caused by his actions.
