As 2021 ended, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was under attack for allegedly being missing in action as COVID-19 enveloped the state.
Left-wingers like Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, and even U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York felt compelled to bash the Republican governor. Critics on social media claimed DeSantis was absent while the state was in “crisis” or “on fire.”
As it turned out, the critics looked ridiculous after it was revealed DeSantis had spent time assisting his wife, Casey, as she underwent treatment for breast cancer – and as a maskless AOC turned up in Miami, 1,300 miles from home, sipping cocktails and celebrating New Year’s Eve as her own state was swamped with new infections.
But where is this “fire” in Florida?
It is true new COVID-19 infections skyrocketed as the omicron variant spread. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Florida reported 10,874 new infections statewide. On Christmas Eve that number had ballooned to 298,455, increasing by a factor of nearly 30.
Yet, the liberal news website Vox.com noted almost two weeks ago, as the Biden administration realized case numbers would explode under omicron, that the thinking had shifted to see hospitalizations and deaths as the metrics to watch.
“Hospitalizations and deaths are the most serious outcomes of Covid-19, and the ones many experts are tracking most closely. They quantify the most important toll of the pandemic and tell us when and where hospital systems are coming under strain,” Vox explained.
If we think of death as the most serious outcome of COVID, Florida under DeSantis continues to outperform the liberals’ beloved blue states.
As of Dec. 30, the CDC reported that Florida suffered 26 deaths over the previous seven days. That equated to a death rate of 0.1 per every 100,000 people over that week.
In comparison, over that same time, New York reported 350 new deaths, and a death rate of 3.2 per 100,000, a rate 32 times greater than Florida’s.
The news was just as bad, or worse, for governors in other blue states.
Pennsylvania reported 718 deaths over that week, with a death rate of 5.6. California reported 71 new deaths and a death rate of 0.9. In Minnesota, 224 deaths and a rate of 4. Michigan, 285 deaths and a rate of 2.9. New Jersey, 177 deaths, with a rate of 2. Connecticut, 84 deaths, with a rate of 2.4.
Even President Joe Biden’s home state, Delaware, which has a population of fewer than 1 million, compared to more than 21 million in Florida, reported more COVID-19 mayhem: 34 deaths and a death rate of 3.5.
It’s possible Florida’s numbers may get worse, and come to match those of these blue states, in the next few weeks, as omicron burns through the Sunshine State before ultimately burning out.
Yet even so, the current data, with people dying in droves in states controlled by allegedly “hands-on” Democratic governors, only show that our sick politics, and not a true concern for sick people, is what’s really driving the criticism of DeSantis.

If attending school and work “virtually” is so wonderful, who is to say that the governor wasn’t attending to his roles in addressing the pandemic virtually? That way he could both fulfill his duties to the State of Florida and his wife. His responsibilities include setting policy and overseeing implementation but do not require physical presence like — oh, say, a nurse or doctor. It seems beyond hypocritical that AOC goes to Florida — absent from New York and DC — for sun and fun while leveling her criticism at DeSantis. Further, when she is in attendance either in person or virtually, she adds nothing positive to finding effective solutions to the pandemic or any other issue.
Democrat/communists lie, 24/7/365. Their true believers repeat the lies far and wide. It’s how they roll. They can create a lie out of an event, such as Ron being with his wife or they just make it up. Whatever their fevered brains are imagining.
Will these liberals ever stop lying they lie on top of lieslosers I will never vote for them they should fire theMiami mayor
