The investigation took a sinister turn when Amber’s husband, Brian Estep, became the primary suspect.
On March 28, authorities arrested Brian in West Virginia on a first-degree murder charge. This arrest came after weeks of intense scrutiny and mounting evidence against him. However, the shocking revelations did not end there.
In a shocking twist, Lane Estep, the son of Brian and Amber Estep, was arrested on April 17.
The charges against him included second-degree arson, accessory after the fact to a capital felony, and tampering with evidence relating to a capital offense. The arrest shed light on a disturbing connection between Lane and the burning truck that had been discovered earlier.
To fully understand the events leading up to Amber Estep’s murder, it is crucial to examine the timeline of the investigation. Here, we will delve into the key moments that unfolded in this tragic tale.
January 16: The Argument
On January 16, Amber and Brian Estep engaged in a heated argument following a medical appointment. This disagreement would prove to be the catalyst for a series of events that would ultimately lead to Amber’s demise.
January 20: The Disappearance
Four days later, Amber’s mother reported her missing. Concerns grew as her loved ones desperately searched for any sign of her whereabouts. The mystery surrounding her disappearance deepened with each passing day.

January 29: The Burning Truck
Within hours of Brian Estep’s interview with investigators, his pickup truck was discovered engulfed in flames in Port St. John. The timing of this incident raised eyebrows, as it coincided with the mounting evidence against him.
As the investigation progressed, chilling details came to light. Brian Estep’s fabricated alibi and attempts to destroy evidence only served to strengthen the case against him. Despite his efforts to evade justice, law enforcement agents were determined to uncover the truth.
The Gruesome Discovery
In February, the truth behind Amber Estep’s fate slowly emerged. Her body was found with severe head trauma and multiple gunshot wounds. Forensic evidence, including blood matching Amber’s, was discovered in a wooded area known as the “Black Hole.” The pieces of the puzzle were falling into place.
In March, authorities arrested Brian Estep in West Virginia, where he had relocated. With mounting evidence and a trail of deceit, law enforcement officials sought to bring him back to Brevard County to face justice for his alleged crimes.
Lane Estep’s Involvement
The arrest of 18-year-old Lane Estep on April 17 sent shockwaves through the community. The revelation that he was implicated in the burning of his father’s truck added another layer of complexity to an already convoluted case. The investigation into Lane’s role in the events surrounding Amber’s murder continues.
“A few weeks ago we provided an update on the Amber Estep homicide with the arrest of her husband, Brian Estep, for her brutal murder!! As a result of the investigation, Brian’s son, Lane Estep was also arrested the following day, by the State of Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives for Second Degree Arson. Like his dad, Brian was initially taken into custody by the West Virginia State Police for the arson of the truck that was set on fire following the murder!” said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.
“As such, evidence of Lane Etep’s efforts to cover up evidence of the murder of Amber by setting fire to the vehicle was well established and ultimately led to his arrest this past Tuesday on additional charges of Accessory After The Fact Relating To A Capital Felony and Tampering With Evidence Relating to a Capital Felony,” said Ivey.
“Thanks to a great number of our citizens who “saw something and said something,” the amazing work of our Agents and Crime Analysts, and of course, the incredible talents of our Crime Scene Unit, Lane is now right where he belongs…locked behind steel bars at the Brevard County Jail on a “No Bond” status!! The case is now in the hands of the criminal justice system that will hopefully put Lane and his dad behind bars where they can have a family reunion that’s attended by them and their new family of violent thugs in state prison,” said Ivey.
