HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla – Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene of a barricaded person situation following an active shooter investigation.
Hernando County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that two people suffered gunshot wounds and have been transported to local hospitals.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis said the suspect, 64-year-old Steve Roosa, started a barn fire before several individuals approached him, and the man opened fire, shooting at least two people.
Following the shooting, Nienhuis said Roosa barricaded himself in a home on Erma Road.

After negotiations with the man, to end the situation peacefully, deputies entered the home, shooting Roosa. The man’s condition is unknown at this time.
“The situation is totally resolved at this point. The suspect is no longer a threat and has been taken into custody,” said Nienhuis.
