Alabama Senator Katie Britt penned an op-ed on Wednesday, praising the first 100 days of the Trump administration and highlighting significant progress in border security, energy policy, and foreign affairs. Referencing her remarks at the Republican National Convention nearly ten months earlier, where she celebrated Trump’s nomination, Sen. Britt reiterated her belief in his leadership.

Britt asserted that during his initial term, the nation experienced a robust economy, energy independence, stable prices, secure borders, safe communities, and strong families. She emphasized that this leader valued the protection of both the lives and livelihoods of American citizens and held a deep appreciation for the United States.

The Senator stated that the American people returned him to the White House, along with granting Republican majorities in both houses of Congress, due to dissatisfaction with the policies of the prior administration.

A key focus of Sen. Britt’s commentary was border security. She described a situation where, over the past four years, “millions of illegal aliens — including violent criminals — poured across our southern border unchecked,” leading to preventable tragedies. She specifically highlighted the Laken Riley Act, named after a young woman allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant with a prior arrest record.

Sen. Britt noted that this bill stalled in the Senate before the Republican majority. However, with the commencement of the 119th Congress and the President’s return to office, the legislation was passed and swiftly signed into law.

According to Sen. Britt, the Laken Riley Act mandates the detention of undocumented immigrants who commit theft-related offenses, assault law enforcement, or perpetrate crimes resulting in death or serious injury. Furthermore, she claimed that the President’s actions have led to a dramatic decrease in illegal border crossings, with encounters by Border Patrol officers reportedly down by 94 percent compared to February of last year and 96 percent from the peak during the previous administration.

Beyond border security, Sen. Britt addressed energy policy. She criticized the prior administration’s Environmental Protection Agency for enacting regulations that she believes hindered productivity in the automotive and oil and gas industries. She asserted that the current President has moved quickly to reduce this “unnecessary red tape” and is working towards restoring energy dominance.

In the realm of foreign policy, Sen. Britt contrasted the current administration’s approach with that of its predecessor. She argued that while the previous administration emboldened adversaries and allowed the Houthis to disrupt Red Sea shipping, the current President has taken decisive action against the terrorist organization, including eliminating key leaders. Sen. Britt conveyed the message that the U.S. will not tolerate attacks on its ships or allow terrorists to disrupt global trade, emphasizing that groups like the Houthis and regimes like Iran only respond to strength.

Britt also highlighted efforts to prevent the U.S. from becoming a haven for terrorism supporters. She stated that the administration has acted to remove individuals who allegedly lied on their green card applications or violated the terms of their visas. She contrasted this with the previous administration, which she claimed gave the “benefit of the doubt” to radicals calling for violence. Sen. Britt asserted that the current President understands that entry into the U.S. is a privilege and that those supporting designated terrorist organizations should not remain within the country.

Finally, Sen. Britt discussed the onshoring of vital industries to secure supply chains and bolster the nation’s economic prosperity and military preparedness. She concluded by stating that the President is fulfilling the promises he made during the 2024 election, ushering in an era of American dominance. She believes the first 100 days are just the beginning of his accomplishments over the next four years.

Katie Britt is a Republican U.S. Senator for Alabama and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
