In a tale of frugality gone wrong, a Flomaton man’s quest for the best deals between dollar stores took an unexpected turn when his bicycle caught the eye of an Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy.
James Nicholas Jordan, 43, apparently thought he could pedal his way to savings, but instead found himself facing drug charges.
The deputy, stationed in the Food Giant parking lot, observed Jordan’s illuminated journey between the Family Dollar and Dollar General stores.

It seems Jordan’s bargain-hunting spirit didn’t extend to bicycle lights, which caught the deputy’s attention.
A closer look at Jordan’s trusty steed revealed a less-than-thrifty surprise: a glass smoking pipe casually displayed in the cup holder.
Further investigation uncovered a suspicious green cap containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, along with another pipe tucked away in a bag.

Jordan’s grand tour of Century’s discount stores ended abruptly with a trip to the Escambia County Jail, where he awaits extradition to Alabama on an outstanding forgery warrant.
It looks like his bargain-hunting days are on hold, at least for the foreseeable future.
