HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – An Alabama man was killed, and a Florida man seriously injured in a crash that happened around 2:43 am on Saturday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a car and a gas tanker truck were traveling southbound in the outside lane of US-41, north of Bloomingdale Avenue. 

Troops say the car, driven by a 23-year-old Ruskin man, overtook and collided with the rear of the tanker truck full of gasoline, which exploded and traveled to the shoulder of the roadway.

The tanker struck a utility pole before coming to a stop and the car overturned on the shoulder.

Troopers say the driver of the gas tanker, a 49-year-old Montgomery, Alabama man, died at the scene of the crash.
