President Joe Biden has refused to grant Secret Service protection to one presidential candidate who has very personal reasons to seek it: Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
On Monday, following his assassination attempt over the weekend, Trump said a change is needed immediately.
“In light of what is going on in the world today, I believe it is imperative that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receive Secret Service protection — immediately. Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!” said Trump on Truth Social Monday.
Shortly after the assassination attempt Saturday at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, political figures from both sides of the aisle emphasized the need for Kennedy to receive Secret Service protection.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) called on the Biden administration to grant Kennedy’s request for protection on Saturday night.
“I encourage @POTUS to immediately provide secret service protection for@RobertKennedyJr,” Polis wrote on the social platform X.
Former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer issued a similar statement, noting on X that the Biden admin should have provided Secret Service protection to Kennedy “a long time ago.”

“My campaign first requested Secret Service protection in May 2023 with a 63-page declaration. We still have a current request pending. My request is the first time in 55 years a candidate has ever been denied. The Biden administration is the sole outlier to turn down a request for Secret Service coverage,” Kennedy said in February to the Tampa Free Press.
