Actor Tim Robbins did not star in “The Matrix.” Still, it seems someone slipped the leftist Hollywood star the red pill.
Robbins, whom no one would ever confuse for a MAGA Republican, seemed remorseful for initial support for draconian COVID-19 policies during a recent interview with British comedian Russell Brand.
More specifically, Robbins, an Academy Award winner who starred in “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Bull Durham,” expressed regret for having “bought into” the virus mantra of lockdowns, masking, and vaccines, and feeling anger at others who did not do so.
Robbins told Brand, “I bought into it. … I was masking everywhere. I was keeping my social distance. I was adhering to the requests made of me, and I felt angry at people that didn’t do that.”

But then reality set in. As The Blaze paraphrased it, Robbins’ “real-life encounters were ultimately at odds with what he had otherwise been told about the pandemic, anti-lockdown protesters, and the unvaccinated. This generated a sense of cognitive dissonance, prompting him to doubt the official narrative.”
Robbins initially seemed unmoved from his narrative by what he saw in America. But during a trip to Britain in January 2021, he recalled, “I noticed a lot of people were not adhering again to these requests made by their government. I thought, well, they’re going to have a hard day coming up, that there will be some serious death here.”
“When I saw that there wasn’t a huge death rate [in Britain], after I witnessed personally what was happening, I started to wonder more and more about what we were being told and whether it was true or not.”
Observing lockdown protests in London, he recalled, “I saw the way that they were being described in the press, and it wasn’t true. These were not, you know, National Front Nazis. These were liberals and lefties and people who believed in personal freedom.”
“I began to open my mind to what was going on,” he said.

Back in America, the actor noted the weird politicization as it played out on the left.
“At first, if you were a Democrat, when [Donald] Trump was president, well, you weren’t going to take that vaccine because it was Trump’s vaccine, and then that seemed to somehow change. It was kind of Orwellian. It was like we are no longer at war with East Asia,” he told Brand.
But once Democrats were in charge, he added, “If you didn’t take the vaccine, you were a Republican.”
Robbins said part of his awakening occurred when it was clear the vaccinated could “catch it and spread it” like the unvaxxed.
Previous COVID policies for lockdowns and mask mandates at that point didn’t “seem to be following the science. It seemed to be following a political agenda.”
“That’s where I really started to have problems with it,” he said. “My alarm bells went off.”
He later added, “We turned into tribal, angry, vengeful people,” readily “demonizing” others and working to “turn them into monsters” over disagreements on COVID policy.
“It turned into you should f–king die because you have not complied,” said Robbins. “That’s incredibly dangerous.”
