More than 50 public libraries across the country have denied actor Kirk Cameron the opportunity to have his own story-hour reading event with children.

Cameron, a devout Christian who also has written, produced, and starred in faith-based films, has penned a new book called “As You Grow.”

Cameron told Fox News the book is part of a series that explores “biblical wisdom” and the values of the “fruit” of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.

Yet, Fox noted, in many U.S. cities, public libraries “have either outright rejected him or not responded to requests on his behalf,” which are made by his publisher, Brave Books.

“Many of the same libraries that won’t give Cameron a slot, however, are actively offering ‘drag queen’ story hours or similar programs for kids and young people, according to Cameron’s book publisher and according to a review of the libraries’ websites and current program listings.”

As one example, Brave Books staff asked a public library in Providence, Rhode Island, about having Cameron appear to read and promote his book. “We are a very queer-friendly library. Our messaging does not align,” a library worker told the publisher. “You can fill out the form to reserve space, to run the program in our space — but we won’t run your program.”

That same library runs something called “Queer Umbrella,” which is advertised for LGBTQ kids 12 and older as a “club and safe space where teens can learn, discuss and connect over queer history, art, community resources, and more.”

In San Diego, considered one of the more conservative areas of California, a worker at a public library told Cameron’s publisher, “I don’t think that’s something that we would do. Because of how diverse our community is, I don’t know how many people you would get.”

Fox noted that the library features Pride events outside of those held during Pride month in June.

Another California library flatly told Brave Books, “We are not interested.” This library, Fox reported, hosts a “get free help” clinic with legal-aid lawyers who assist with “completing name and gender marker” changes in official documents. The library also proclaims, “Every Month Is Pride Month.”

Showing a different side of wokeness, an Indianapolis library rejected Cameron because its strategic plan focuses on “racial equity,” and accordingly its promotional efforts center on “authors who are diverse. Authors of color.”

Cameron is white, in addition to being straight, male, and married with six children.

In an interview, Cameron told Fox News, “This is proof that more than ever, we are getting destroyed in the battle for the hearts and minds of our children.”

“Publicly funded libraries are green-lighting ‘gender marker and name change clinics’ while denying a story time that would involve the reading of a book that teaches biblical wisdom. How much more clear can it get?” he added.

“We have to start fighting back, or we will lose our kids and this country.”
