As the countdown to 2025 begins, AccuWeather meteorologists have released their New Year’s Eve forecast, offering a glimpse of what revelers can expect across the United States.

The forecast predicts a mixed bag of weather, with the potential for rain and snow in the Northeast, mild temperatures in the South, and dry conditions in the West.

“We’re going to be tracking multiple storms that will move across the eastern part of the United States during the final days of December and early part of January,” said Paul Pastelok, AccuWeather’s Lead Long-Range Expert.

One of these storms could impact New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Northeast, bringing a mix of rain and snow. Cities like New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. could see rain showers as the new year arrives.

“Rain could arrive before the ball drops in Times Square, but the timing of that remains in flux and something we will continue to monitor,” Pastelok said.

The Midwest may also see some precipitation, with a chance of rain or snow showers in Chicago and Detroit. The NHL Winter Classic, taking place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, could see some wintry weather with temperatures in the 30s.

Temperatures across much of the country are expected to be mild, with above-average readings in the Great Lakes and Northeast. However, a faster-moving storm could bring colder air south, potentially lowering temperatures.

The West Coast will see a stark contrast in conditions. Seattle and Portland, Oregon, are expected to experience continued wet weather, while Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Diego will enjoy dry and mild conditions, ideal for outdoor celebrations.
