Another alleged right-wing conspiracy theory has been validated.
ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos on Tuesday not only argued that the Deep State is a real thing but that it is good and “packed with patriots.”
Stephanopoulos, a former operative for Bill Clinton’s election campaigns and White House staff who now hosts the Sunday show “This Week,” sang hosannas to the Deep State during an appearance on “The View.”

“Some people like to call those people the Deep State. Well, the big thing I learned doing this book is that the Deep State is packed with patriots, people who go to work every single day and are on the front lines of the most intense crises the country faces and do it to serve their country and to serve the presidency, not the president,” Stephanopoulos said.
He appeared on the show to promote his new book, “The Situation Room: The Inside Story of Presidents in Crisis.”
According to WND.com, which reported on Stephanopoulos’ comments, the book examines how several presidents and their staffs worked in the White House Situation Room to deal with crises.
“They don’t care about political parties. They’re there to serve the presidency and the institution,” added Stephanopoulos, who claimed one unnamed bureaucrat proudly proclaimed we serve in silence.”

“And to me,” he continued, “they are the heroes of the book and patriots that I think everybody should meet. We’ve heard a lot about the Deep State in recent years, and what I come away from after talking to more than a hundred people for this is the Deep State is packed with patriots.”
“These people who come from the NSA, NSC, the DIA, the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, State Department, Homeland Security – all devoted to serving their country, rigorously apolitical, exceptionally competent, and professional. It was a real privilege to be able to tell their stories.”
Arguably, Stephanopoulos could be setting the stage for media backing of Deep State shenanigans, if former President Donald Trump is re-elected in November.
While liberals dismissed claims by Trump and his allies that the Deep State existed, the evidence was there.
In September 2018, former Trump White House staffer Miles Taylor wrote an anonymous op-ed for The New York Times proudly asserting that he was part of the “resistance” within the Trump administration working to block the president’s agenda.

And that had real-world consequences. Just two weeks ago, Army Col. Earl Matthews, the chief legal advisor for the D.C. National Guard during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, told lawmakers that the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other senior military leaders ignored Trump’s commands during the riot.
They were “plotting to disobey any orders handed down by Trump because they ‘unreasonably’ assumed the then-president was going to break the law and try to use the D.C. National Guard (DCNG) to stop certification of the 2020 presidential election results.on that day,” the Daily Mail reported.
Meanwhile, like Stephanopoulos, the Times recently ran an opinion article under the headline, “It Turns Out the ‘Deep State’ Is Actually Kind of Awesome.”
