Only in Florida. A Florida man, Jesus Marquez, 60, was arrested for DUI after telling deputies he had ‘Too Many” and breaking into a dance during a sobriety check.
Deputies in Charlotte County received a 911 call about a reckless driver on Saturday and responded to the area of the call.
Deputies observed a black BMW struggling to maintain lanes and randomly speeding up and slowing down.
Investigators say when deputies activated their emergency lights to conduct a stop on the vehicle, the driver continued for several seconds before finally applying its brakes and swerving in its lane before coming to a complete stop.
Deputies asked Marquez if he’d had any alcoholic beverages that evening. Marquez replied that he had been drinking, and stated “too many” before stating he was drunk.
Investigators say that Marquez could not maintain his balance and rested on the vehicle for stability. At this time, he was asked to complete field sobriety exercises, according to deputies.
Jesus performed poorly on all FSE’s, and during the “Walk and Turn” exercise, he began to dance in place and then dance up and down the line he was asked to walk, deputies say.
Jesus was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and transported to the Charlotte County Jail. While en route to the jail, he vomited in the patrol car and on himself. Upon arrival, he became belligerent and refused to provide a breath sample.
Jesus Marquez is currently out on bond in the amount of $1500.00.
