A conservative group in New Hampshire has offered parents a reward for turning in teachers who unlawfully teach kids Critical Race Theory.
The state’s Republican governor, despite implementing the law, was not amused.
According to Newsweek, Gov. Chris Sununu signed into law a bill that prohibits teachers from educating children that they are “inferior, racist, sexist or oppressive by virtue of their race, gender or other characteristics.”
On its website, the New Hampshire Department of Education created an online system for reporting violations.
Parents can complete the forms, which are reviewed by the state Commission on Human Rights. Any teacher who crosses the line, in the commissioners’ judgment, faces punishment by the state Board of Education.
In response to that, Newsweek reports, the New Hampshire chapter of Moms for Liberty issued a tweet: “We’ve got $500 for the person that first successfully catches a public school teacher breaking this law.”
The group sent a second tweet that referred to the payment as “CRT Bounty’s,” a reference to Critical Race Theory.
Sununu denounced the Moms for Liberty tweet, saying in a statement that “referencing ‘bounties’ and any sort of financial incentive is wholly inappropriate and has no place.”
Liberals and the state teachers’ union has naturally objected to any system that holds them accountable for what happens in the classroom.
State Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut offered a mild criticism of the tweet, telling Newsweek that “a lot of rhetoric on social media [is] not helpful or constructive.”
But he also played down the criticism of the teachers, suggesting that looking at individual teachers does not damage teaching as a profession.
“Cosmetology doesn’t view this as an attack on cosmetology because someone lets someone file a complaint,” he told Newsweek.
