On Climate, Talk Is Cheap, While Strong Majority Believe Warming Is A Problem, More Than Half Want Minimal Spending

We’ve long heard from liberal activists that climate change is a “global” warming problem.

Yet for many who aren’t on the left side of the climate spectrum, the real problem is those activists assert that America and her key allies – Canada and western Europe – are the only ones that must sacrifice to repair the alleged damage.

The world’s biggest polluters – primarily China and India – are excused.

Yet a new poll by the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute, or CEI, revealed that many Americans believe the sacrifice they are called to make is too great.

The poll found that 71 percent of respondents are somewhat or very concerned about climate change – a tally driven up by liberals, 96 percent of whom agree with that point.

Yet 81 percent of Republicans and 49 percent of independents and 39 percent of moderates disapprove of President Joe Biden’s quasi-Green New Deal approach to the issue.

Accordingly, a majority – 52 percent – say they would be willing to spend just $10 or less each month to correct the climate.

Of that group, 35 percent said they wanted to spend zero.

Additionally, 39 percent said they wanted to spend nothing, in terms of higher electric or gasoline bills, to address warming.

When asked how much of their retirement fund they wanted to divert to fix climate change, 40 percent said not a single penny.

In a press release, CEI’s CEO Kent Lassman observed, “The latest CEI poll shows that while expressing concern about climate change is cheap, many Americans who claim to be concerned about the issue also won’t spend a single dollar annually on climate change policies.”

“While humans are undoubtedly contributing to climate change, it remains the case that costly regulations and mandates favored by climate alarmists pose a greater threat than the effects of our changing climate. Tradeoffs matter and climate mitigation policies are no exception,” Lassman added.
