Pasco County School Board Vote Yes on Delayed Opening

LAND O’ LAKES, Fla- The Pasco County School board voted yes to delay the start of schools in Pasco County, based on the Superintendent Kurt Brownings’ earlier recommendation.

The two-week delay will have students returning to class on Aug 24th and teachers returning on Aug 17th.

During the school board meeting on Tuesday, Browning said, “The order does not give districts any wiggle room to not open our schools. I don’t necessarily agree with the order but it is an immaterial point,” in reference to the state emergency order for Florida’s Phase-2 school openings.

“Parents, teachers, and staff have made it abundantly clear that they to have concerns,” said Browning.

“I have to be brutally honest here even with the delay there are no absolutely guarantees that the infection rate will improve in that time or that we will have a clear idea whether or not our community has turned the corner in terms of COVID-19,” Browning said.
