Most voters believe President Joe Biden should step down because of the withdrawal fiasco in Afghanistan, while the buyer’s remorse gets stronger, a new poll indicates.
Rasmussen Reports noted on Wednesday that 52 percent of respondents to its recent survey said Biden should resign because of the botched exit from Kabul. That compared to 39 percent who believe he should stay.
Not surprisingly, sentiment for Biden to fall on his sword over Afghanistan was strongest among Republicans, as 75 percent of them believe he should go. Yet 48 percent of independents and 32 percent of Democrats agreed, Rasmussen noted.
But voters also don’t have confidence in what would come next if that happened.
Rasmussen reported that just 38 percent of voters believe Vice President Kamala Harris is qualified to run the country, if Biden leaves. Looking at only those who think Biden should resign, that ratio plummets to just 13 percent who think Harris is at least “somewhat” qualified for the nation’s top job.
But CNSNews.com highlighted another Rasmussen report that indicated former President Donald Trump would defeat Biden if the election were held again today.
Trump had the backing of 43 percent of those polled. That compares to 37 percent who support Biden.
“Voter regret regarding the choice made in the 2020 election is a major reason Trump would come out on top today,”CNSNews.com explained, “as six times as many Biden voters (12%) as Trump voters (2%) say they are sorry they voted for the candidate they did in the last election.”
Rasmussen’s poll found that 79 percent of Biden voters would remain loyal, while 7 percent would switch to Trump. On the other hand, 81 percent of Trump’s voters from last year would stick within him, while only 2 percent would trade for Biden.
But, as CNSNews.com noted, voters who picked a third-party candidate in 2020 are now three times more likely to vote for Trump (21 percent) than Biden (7 percent). Among those who admitted to buyer’s remorse from last November, 51 percent indicated they’d go with Trump, relative to only 26 percent who would vote for Biden.
