Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited the southern Texas border over the weekend and wasn’t impressed by what he saw.
“What I saw happening at our southern border this weekend is appalling. We have an unmitigated crisis at our border like we’ve never seen before,” said DeSantis.
“Drugs, crime, and human trafficking are pouring into our country at record rates. But this problem doesn’t end at border towns in Texas and Arizona. Traffickers are flooding into every state in America, especially Florida,” DeSantis added.
While in Texas, Governor DeSantis also met with Texas Governor Abbott for a tour and to receive a briefing on the rise in crime and drug trafficking that Texas is experiencing because of the Biden Administration’s failed border policies.
At the briefing, Governor DeSantis announced that the Florida National Guard will remain in Texas to provide additional support at the border until October 2022.
DeSantis announced in June that Florida state law enforcement officers have deployed to Texas to provide additional support in response to the security crisis at the southern border.
Resources from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission(FWC) are deploying today, including more than 50 state law enforcement officers from FDLE, FHP, FWC, and mission-critical equipment. It is anticipated that personnel will be deployed for 16-day shifts.
Florida law enforcement has assisted with the apprehension of more than 2,800 undocumented aliens in 23 days and aided in more than 100 criminal arrests for felonies including human trafficking, drug smuggling, and stolen vehicles.
The amount of fentanyl seized in June of 2021 was 27x more than was seized in June of 2020. In June alone, enough fentanyl was seized to kill 72% of the entire United States population.
“We appreciate Texas stepping up where the federal government won’t,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “When Governor Abbott put out the call for help at the border, we immediately answered because we know that the success in Texas is America’s success. Of the individuals our law enforcement have apprehended at the border, more than 70% said they ultimately wanted to go to Florida. To solve this problem, we want to see successful border policies reinstated that President Biden irresponsibly removed. Until then, states are going to have to step up, and I am proud to dedicate Florida resources to help. In addition to our law enforcement officers, Florida National Guard will continue to serve at the border to support Texas National Guard until October 2022.”
“This lawlessness and continued crisis is both empowered and encouraged by Biden and Harris,” said DeSantis. “People crossing illegally into our country are not being deported. In fact, the federal government is now helping people illegally entering our nation travel throughout the United States even after they are apprehended. This will lead to massive pressure on taxpayers and local community services such as schools, law enforcement and hospitals.”
Border apprehensions have risen every single month since Biden took over the Oval. In 2021 alone, there have already been over 1 million stops along our southern border.
