In “Obsession,” his book on the Democrats’ road to impeaching former President Donald Trump, Byron York points out how Democratic Rep. Al Green waged the fight to make that happen.
Green, of Texas, was the first to call publicly for Trump to be ousted, citing his firing of James Comey, and continued on with everything he could find, from Trump’s comments on Charlottesville to a phone call to Ukraine. By the time Democrats held a majority in the House, Green’s campaign bore fruit.
Now, another Greene, this time a Republican, is doing likewise.
Last week Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia reiterated her demand that President Joe Biden be impeached. Joined by former Trump adviser Sebastian Gorka, Greene argued in a post on Telegram, “It’s time to impeach Biden!”
The post links to a petition people can sign. The Sun of London reported last week that the post had been viewed more than 26,000 times.
“I filed articles of impeachment on Joe Biden! 75 million Americans are fed up with inaction. It’s time to take a stand,” the petition says.
“Quid pro-Joe Biden abused his power as Vice President. Americans will not tolerate this. Become a citizen co-sponsor by signing your petition above!” it adds.
Greene then noted Biden was “caving to China after they unleashed a virus on America,” and that “the ‘Big Man’ (was) taking his cut” of Hunter Biden’s “shady dealings.”
The petition also referenced Greene’s first impeachment call, made on Biden’s second day in office.
In a press release that day, Greene cited six reasons Biden should be impeached.
“Joe Biden abused the power of the Office of the Vice President, enabling bribery and other high crimes and misdemeanors, by allowing his son to influence the domestic policy of a foreign nation and accept various benefits — including financial compensation — from foreign nationals in exchange for certain favors,” Greene maintained.
She then cited Hunter Biden’s involvement with nefarious characters in Ukraine, Russia and China, and claimed that the Biden clan benefitted financially while putting the country at risk.
“President Biden gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of government,” Greene said in the release. “Through blatant nepotism, he enabled his son to influence foreign policy and financially benefit as a result of his role as Vice President.”
