Vice President Kamala Harris snapped when she was asked about why it took so long for her to visit the southern border, Fox News reported Friday.

Harris arrived in El Paso, Texas, for a border visit over 90 days after President Joe Biden appointed her to address the root causes of migration to the U.S., according to Fox News. Harris is scheduled to tour a Border Patrol facility and a processing center before an operational briefing.

“It’s not my first trip, I’ve been to the border many times,” Harris said, apparently referencing her visits to the border as a senator, Fox News reported.

“Because as I’ve long said, I said back in March I was going to come to the border so this is not a new plan, but the reality of it is we have to deal with the causes and we have to deal with the effects,” Harris said, according to Fox News.

Democrats and Republicans have criticized Harris for visiting Guatemala and Mexico before the U.S. southern border, according to Fox News. She met with the country’s leaders to discuss plans to combat poverty, violence and climate issues that lead to migration from Central America.

“And being in Guatemala, and being in Mexico talking with Mexico as a partner frankly on the issue, was about addressing the causes and coming to the border at the advice and invitation of [Rep. Veronica Escobar] is about looking at the effects of what we have seen happening in Central America,” Harris said, Fox News reported.

Harris is expected to meet with non-governmental organizations and other nonprofits who provide shelter, legal and transportation services to migrants in El Paso, Texas, according to Fox News. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin and Texas Rep. Veronica Escobar joined Harris for the visit.
