Oregon is a funny place.
For months on end, for example, the anarchists in Antifa have ruled the streets of Portland with violence and impunity – to the point that the mayor abandoned his own home to save his neighbors from being subjected to the Antifa protests outside his door.
But this state that coddles and swaddles woke left-wingers has gone full Third Reich on COVID vaccines.
Late last week, as the conservative website PJ Media reports, Oregon has started “requiring houses of worship, employers, and businesses to check the vaccine records of adherents, employees, or customers in exchange for being able to take off their masks indoors.”
And those who dare to conduct business as they see fit?
We expect employers to comply, whichever route they take – allowing the vaccination exemption or sticking with current requirements,” said Aaron Corvin, spokesman for Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration. “We will take and investigate complaints alleging employers aren’t requiring face coverings for example or checking vaccination status.”
PJ Media notes that government agencies are not requiring passports for entry. Yet it doesn’t seem they need to.
Gov. Kate Brown, PJ Media reported, “also ordered all people inside K-12 schools, jails, hospitals, and homeless shelters must wear masks, regardless of papers.”
Add to that President Biden’s mandate for masks on federal property and the number of government outlets allowing masklessness dwindles.
Dr. Dean Sidelinger, head of Oregon’s state health department, suggested businesses will not be required to authenticate passports.
Still, he said, according to PJ Media, they “need to institute a system where individuals can share their vaccination status.”
Sidelinger told local media he was not aware of any other states requiring vaccine passports at this time – meaning Oregon is a trailblazer.
But considering that President Joe Biden, who won Oregon in November with 57 percent of the vote, said fully vaccinated people don’t need to wear masks indoors, how is this not creating vaccine hesitancy in a state where, as of Saturday, 53 percent of the population has had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine?
