PALMETTO, Fla. – Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Jonathan Hobbs, from Palmetto, Fla., center, assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Ignatius (DDG 117), signals to the sliding padeye operator during a replenishment-at-sea evolution with the Military Sealift Command dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS William McLean (T-AKE 12), May 13, 2021.
Paul Ignatius and William McLean will participate in exercise At-Sea Demo/Formidable Shield, which is a joint live-fire integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) exercise conducted by Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO on behalf of U.S. Sixth Fleet.
With more than 90 percent of all trade traveling by sea, and 95 percent of the world’s international phone and internet traffic carried through fiber optic cables lying on the ocean floor, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity and security of the United States is directly linked to a strong and ready Navy.
