Texas Gov. Abbott

According To Texas Gov. Abbott’s Tweet, The ‘Neanderthals’ Are Prevailing

President Joe Biden called it “Neanderthal thinking” in March when the governors of Texas and Mississippi ended COVID-19 mask mandates.

Well, as with many things Biden, it was wrong.

On Sunday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, declared zero deaths that day from COVID.

That was, Abbott tweeted, “the only time that’s happened since data was tracked in March, 2020.”

It was also “the fewest Covid cases in over 13 months,” Abbott tweeted, and “the lowest 7-day Covid positivity rate ever” as well as “the lowest Covid hospitalizations in 11 months.”

“Great job, Texans!” he added.

Abbott ended the mask mandate and announced that Texas was 100 percent open on March 2, citing the widespread availability and effectiveness of both vaccines and therapeutic drugs.

In Mississippi, Gov. Tate Reeves, also a Republican, ended his state’s restrictions as well, saying the vaccines meant his state could work its way back to normal.

“The governor’s office is getting out of the business of telling people what they can and cannot do,” Reeves said during a press conference that day.

And again, Biden and the rest of the chorus predicted doom.

“The last thing, the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking that in the meantime, everything’s fine, take off your mask, forget it,” Biden said back in March.

As it turned out, things were relatively fine in both Mississippi and Texas.

According to The New York Times COIVD tracker, on March 2 Mississippi’s rolling seven-day average on new cases was 582, while for deaths it was 21.

As of Sunday, those numbers stood at 221 and four, respectively.

On Friday, Abbott noted in a statement, “With over 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered to date and over 50% of eligible Texans vaccinated with at least one dose, the Lone Star State has achieved an incredible milestone in our fight against this virus.”
