Sumter County deputies are hunting for the killer of two teenagers murdered and dumped just outside of Wildwood.
The Sheriff’s Office on Friday announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
According to investigators, a delivery driver working along County Road 219 west of Wildwood discovered the bodies of Isaiah Nelson, 17, and Prestin Nixon, 16, both of Wildwood, shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Investigators said the teens, who had been shot to death, did not live in the area. Additionally, deputies believe they knew their killer. Deputies have released few other details.
Sheriff’s Capt. Jon Galvin has described the slayings as “brutal and senseless.”
On Friday, the Sheriff’s Office released a video in which Matt Ohley, Isaiah’s uncle, as the representative for both families, made an emotional appeal from people to come forward with information.
“We stand before you broken,” Ohley said. “The English language, any language for that matter, is insufficient to be able to communicate the sadness, the depths of despair, that is being felt by myself and these families.”
Ohley remembered both teens as kind, gentle, helpful and caring.
“These young men both had bright futures ahead of them,” Ohley said.
“And due to then actions of some monster, or monsters, however it may play out, their futures are no longer there.”
He also encouraged anyone with knowledge of the killings to set aside any “reservations” about helping deputies and to come forward.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at 352-793-2621 or to remain anonymous call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
