CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater Police detectives have charged a Largo man with carjacking and other charges in connection with a January incident.
Matthew Uselton, 37, of Powderhorn Circle in Largo faces charges of carjacking, attempted grand theft auto, and fraudulent use of a credit card. He is in the Pinellas County Jail.
The crime occurred on Jan. 19 in the parking lot of Clearwater Mall. That’s when Uselton first tried to carjack a woman in front of Costco but was unsuccessful when the victim screamed and ran away. He then approached a woman in the Pet Smart parking lot as she sat in the driver’s seat of her car. He opened her door at knifepoint and pulled her out of the car before fleeing in her vehicle. Neither victim was physically injured.
Detectives were able to develop Uselton as a suspect shortly after the crime.
At the time of his booking for the Clearwater charges, he was in jail for another crime out of Largo that occurred shortly after the carjacking.
