The Florida Cabinet has approved funding that will help protect nearly 32,000 acres of Florida lands, including portions of Polk County’s Green Swamp, through the Florida Forever Program.
Areas from the Panhandle’s Emerald Coast, North Florida’s springs country, to the prairie of Southwest Florida are now protected with the help of Florida Forever funding.
Lands most recently included – in addition to the Green Swamp— are Silver River in Marion County, South Walton (Topsail) in Walton County, Lake Wimico in Gulf County, Hendry County’s Devil’s Garden, the Bluffs of St. Teresa in Franklin and Wakulla counties and Tippen Bay Ranch in DeSoto County.
Since 2001, more than 800,000 acres have been protected through the Florida Forever Program.
