President Donald Trump may be gone, but Florida state Rep. Anthony Sabatini wants to make sure the 45th president is not forgotten.
The Lake County Republican announced that he wants to rename U.S. 27, a federal highway that stretches the spine of the peninsula for nearly 500 miles between Tallahassee and Miami, for Trump.
“This legislative session I will be sponsoring an amendment to rename U.S. Highway 27 as the ‘President Donald J. Trump Highway,’” Sabatini tweeted on Monday evening.
“Looking forward to working on this important designation honoring one of the greatest Presidents in American History.”
Liberals unloaded on Sabatini on Twitter for the idea, claiming in their replies to his tweet that Trump was responsible for the tragic Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol and the coronavirus death tally.
But he is not alone in this idea.
Since 2018 Republican state lawmakers in Utah, South Carolina, and Oklahoma have filed bills to rename major highways for Trump.
None of them succeeded, however.
