TAMPA, Fla. – What do Major League baseball, law enforcement, and turkey all have in common? A sense of community and giving back. On Saturday, the ‘GivensBack Foundation’ teamed up with the Tampa Police Department to hand out turkeys in communities where it was needed.
“It was another great year. An opportunity to team up with the Tampa Police Department to help out our community by giving turkeys to those in need, with the kids & parents in the Givens Back Foundation,” said Mychal Givens, MLB player and founder of the Given Back Foundation.
Givens added, “With all that’s has been going on COVID-19 & everything else, this was a great opportunity to give back.”
The GivensBack Foundation’s goal is to provide access to sports, unique opportunities through sports, and the teaching of life lessons outside of the classroom, for those in communities most in need.
Mychal Givens, the founder of GivensBack Foundation, is a Tampa native and American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2015 with the Baltimore Orioles.
Givens attended Henry B. Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, where he played for the school’s baseball team as a pitcher and an infielder. In 2007, he was selected to play for the United States 18-and-under national baseball team. In his junior and senior years, he was named All-State.
