TAMPA, Fla. – Bulls fans will have to wait to see if QB Byrum Brown is ready to lead the Bulls offense this fall. Brown was held back from playing in the Spring Game after tweaking his hamstring in practice last week. Bulls head coach Alex Golesh says Brown’s injury is nothing to be concerned about, and if it were a regular-season game, Brown would have played.
Bryce Archie and freshman Locklan Hewlett were productive, with Hewlett leading all signal callers, going 13-of-14 for 110 yards and three touchdowns. Archie, who is also a pitcher on the USF baseball team and was the starting quarterback for eight games last season, went 11-for-18 for 97 yards.

In the Hawaii Bowl last Christmas Eve, Archie led the Bulls to a five-overtime win, beating San Jose State 41-39. All in all, Golesh said it was nice to play in the intimate atmosphere of Corbett Field in front of all those USF supporters.
“We’ve done this for three years in a row now (playing at Corbett Field) and it gives you goosebumps to walk out and play a game on campus,” Golesh said. “Certainly, I’m super excited for 2027 when we get a chance to come out in the fall and play on campus.”
The Bulls are confident that Byrum will be their starter coming back from a fractured leg, and he did look impressive in spring practice. Brown broke his leg in a loss to Tulane last September. This hamstring injury, though, appears to be a small setback.

Sophomore Nykahi Davenport led the USF running attack, with eight carries for 55 yards, and sophomore Alvon Isaac Keith, with nine carries for 50 yards.
Sophomore WR Brandon Winton led all receivers with two touchdowns. One of those scores was a 29-yard strike from Hewlett.
The Bulls got a glimpse of what sophomore Nico Gramatica can bring, hitting a 47-yard field goal.
USF has had 15 practices this spring and now has the annual Spring Game to prepare for regular season practices leading up to the August 28 home opener against a talented Boise State squad.
